This is a Tamiya 1/48 Scale assembly and painting required plastic
model kit of the North American P-51 Mustang, a legendary American
single-seat, single-engine fighter of the Second World War. This 1/48
scale assembly kit depicts the P-51D variant flown by the men of the
famous 332nd Fighter Group/Air Expeditionary Wing, commonly known as
"The Tuskegee Airmen". Model kit features: Kit features recessed panel
lines, detailed cockpit with seated pilot figure, boxed-in wheel wells,
optional position flaps and radiator shutter, drop tanks (x2), separate
propeller blades, multipart canopy and canopy mask. Decals and painting
reference for 3 'Red Tail' aircraft: 'Bunnie' of Capt Roscoe Brown,
100th FS, 332nd FG; 'Duchess Arlene of Lt Robert W Williams, 100th
FS,332nd FG and 'AI*3' of the 99th FS, 332nd FG. *ABOUT THE TUSKEGEE
AIRMEN: Nicknamed the "Red Tails" and sometimes called the "Red-Tailed
Angels" because of the distinctive crimson paint on the vertical
stabilizers of the unit's aircraft, the Tuskegee Airmen were the first
African American pilots of the U.S. military. The "Red Tails" Squadron
was an outstanding combat unit, and the squadron's impressive combat
record in World War II merits special mention. As a unit, the 332nd was
awarded with a number of Distinguished Unit Citation (DUC) as well as
being credited for shooting down some 109 Luftwaffe aircrafts. By the
war's end, pilots of the 332nd were decorated with a total of 150
Distinguished Flying Crosses, 8 Purple Hearts, 14 Bronze Stars, 744 Air
Medals, and several Silver Stars.
